Karaikudi: A happy NEWS to the citizens of Karaikudi. A regional airport is expected to be built soon at Karaikudi. Recently, officials of the Airports Authority of India have inspected the runway, which was constructed by the British during World War – II, at Chettinad, near Karaikudi. The runway is still in good condition, and the officials have planned to develop the area into a regional airport. Karaikudi has many important places like the Heritage Chettinad Palace, various heritage temples, Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) and Alagappa University (the only A++ Grade University in South India). This airport is to be constructed under the Regional Air Connectivity Scheme – UDAN. I am also happy that the place I lived in for a long time is finally getting an airport.
